In September 2020 East Java experienced deflation of 0.15 percent. Of
the eight CPI cities in East Java, seven experienced deflation and one
city experienced inflation. The highest deflation in Probolinggo was
0.35 percent. Meanwhile, inflation occurred in Kediri at 0.15 percent.

Deflation occurred due to a decrease in prices as indicated by a fall
in some of the expenditure group index, namely: the food, beverage and
tobacco group by 0.44 percent, the health group by 0.04 percent, the
transportation group by 0.61 percent, and the information group,
communication and financial services by 0.02 percent. While the groups
experiencing inflation were the clothing and footwear group by 0.02
percent, the equipment, equipment and routine household maintenance
group by 0.26 percent, the recreation, sports and culture group by 0.09
percent, the education group by
0.08
percent, the food and beverage / restaurant supply group by 0.05
percent, and the personal care and other services group by 0.03 percent.
Meanwhile, the housing, water, electricity, and household fuels group
did not experience any changes.

The inflation rate for the calendar year for September 2020 is 0.74
percent and the year-on-year inflation rate (September 2020 against
September 2019) is 1.30 percent.
