Abstract

In August 2024, the workforce in Surabaya reached 1.62 million people, an increase of 55.1 thousand compared to August 2023. The Labor Force Participation Rate (LFPR) rose to 70.49 percent, up by 1.76 percentage points from the previous year. The Open Unemployment Rate (OUR) stood at 4.91 percent, marking a significant decrease of 1.85 percentage points from August 2023. Most employed residents (76.13 percent) worked in the Services sector, followed by 23.38 percent in Manufacturing and only 0.49 percent in Agriculture. Approximately 61.81 percent, or around 955 thousand people, were employed in formal jobs, a decrease of 2.04 percentage points compared to the previous year.
